Worth it
I bought these after being annoyed that my birds always kicked their wood chips/straw/etc out of their nest boxes. I was nervous they wouldn’t like them but they don’t seem to mind at all and it keeps the eggs so much cleaner. The only problem I had was that they were a little big for my nest boxes but I just let some hang out the front since I didn’t care to mess with cutting them. I’ll definitely be buying more.

Price Tag Too High
First and foremost, I’m not trying to be rude, but did anyone else notice the white Cornish cross (meat chicken) looking chicken they use on the box and in pictures looks like a young COCKEREL, not a hen. Poor choice IMO to be the poster chicken for this product. Face palm. It immediately gave me an ick that this company isn’t exactly educated in chickens.Onto the review:I’ve seen loads of different varieties of these aspen material nesting pads. I’m not sure why these products are so expensive, I would truly appreciate if someone could educate me as to why. This company’s price is comparable to other brands I’ve seen selling a similar product. So, I’m not knocking this specific company’s price, just overall this type of product in general seems overpriced to me. I can buy an entire bale of hay for nesting boxes for $15 that would last me an entire year…why is this material double the price for way less product to last me only a few months?I received the pads in the mail, they were great quality and a generous amount of material was clearly used since the pads were thick and compacted. I took the liberty of deconstructing the pads, pulling them apart and expanding all of that compacted material. The volume of product was approximately tripled for ONE pad.In an effort to save money and stretch this product out as much as I could to make it last longer, I’ll be filling my nesting boxes with the raw material I took apart from the pads. I’ll add more material as needed, switch out as needed. My hens tend to like to make nests (instinctively) out of their nesting box material anyway. I don’t know any chicken that would actually enjoy laying their egg on a flat pad.All in all, my eggs did stay cleaner from this material, and I was able to generously fill out more than one nesting box with the material I pulled apart from just 1 pad. The nesting boxes are now full of a nice thick layer of material and my ladies were happy to make a nice nest out of it!Try pulling apart the pads and letting your hens do what they’re instinctively meant to do, build a nest!@ChickenCoop4TheSoul on Instagram.

Great product
We’ve had chickens for many years and always used straw for their laying boxes. Straw works just fine but quite often chickens throw it out of the laying boxes for whatever reason. It is not possible to reason things out with chickens. They do what they do. One day I was looking for egg cartons on Amazon and came across these pads. I thought I will try them just to make my job a little easier. And magic! The pads practically never have to be replaced. Chickens don’t mess with them. When we added a few new chickens they started messing with the pads but it still takes them a long time to destroy them.

Hen Nesting Pads
First time I bought this product. I have mixed feelings. My hens were sleeping in their nesting boxes at night. The nesting pad is stiff and because they are not comfortable they are no longer sleeping in their nesting boxes. Which is good. They are suppose to perch at night. Easy to shake off hen droppings. Pads last a while. Pad does not peal off well from their paper backing which can be annoying. I have a broody hen sitting on eggs and she just does not look as comfortable as when she laid her eggs in the pine shavings I used to use. I will probably use a combination of pads in some boxes and pine shavings in other boxes to give chickens a choice. Pads do protect eggs and fit nicely in my boxes.

Chickens are cluckin happy!
My husband was skeptical when I purchased this product. He said that the chickens would have the mat tore apart in a day. Well I am happy to report that after 2 months these mats are still intact and my hens are happy laying their eggs on these comfy mats.

Chickens love them
Chickens love them and maybe a little to much because they scratch and scratch until there is nothing left of them. Good idea just need to be tied together so they do not come apart so easily. Perhaps a couple lines of stitching from corner to corner would make them more resistant to the chickens scratching.

Same Product as the Others
I use nesting pads in my nest boxes, and as a topper over straw. Nesting pads are great because they are easy to install and to remove when they get dirty. Using them avoids straw getting kicked about.I decided to switch and buy the more expensive Eaton Pet and Pasture brand because it appeared that it would be a different, more sustainable material. But the material appears to be exactly the same as other, less expensive brands. The other issue I had with this particular product is that the pads are placed directly into a cardboard box, with no protective wrapping. When my box arrived, it was wet in the rain and the pads had also absorbed moisture. The chickens like them but there isn’t any discernable difference between this brand and the other brands available on the market, except for the price.

Chicken love these!
These are all natural and we love them, our chickens do too! I have only had to change them out every 6 months and they are compostable! Our chickens love clean nesting boxes and most of them are good at not pooping in them but some do so we have to change them out but not often at all! I just bought my second box!

Don’t love these.
The chickens don’t like them. Can’t swirl them into a nest shape. They pull out hunks and it ends up on the floor of the coop. They do protect the eggs when laid and fit neatly in the boxes or can be cut to fit. Guess mine are used to straw.

If you want clean eggs, you need these!
I can’t believe how clean the eggs are now! We used to put hay or shavings in the nesting boxes but always had to deal with poop on the eggs. Now with the nesting pads, eggs are spotless! Added some dried herbs for chickens and the eggs are even scented now!Just ordered another box of pads to use under the roosting poles10/10 will purchase again!

These made the nests so much easier to manage
I use these in our three chicken aviaries and love them. They are the perfect size for the multi-level nests we have against the wall in all three chicken aviaries that house 35 chickens all together from chicks to teenage chicks to adult laying hens. The roosters even use them at night instead of the perches. They do not kick them out (like hay or straw bundles) while getting in and out of nests because they come glued to a cardboard underneath that weighs the nest down. The nests also keep the chickens warm at night so well that we do not shut the door to the coop anymore only to the chicken run so they do not have to wait for us to let them out in the morning. We love our chicken flocks and provide nothing but the best food and home and this is one of the items we will always use.

Chickens Love These/Egg Producers!!!
Within 5 days of replacing my 6 roosting boxes with these, my girls produced 61 eggs!!! (39 hens) I replaced square astrorurf for these to give them something cooler and more comfortable for spring in the south. I’d say they are happy hens. I did have to replace 2 already because they produced more than I expected and had 2 broken eggs, but lesson learned. (I don’t check the boxes everyday) I’ve already placed these in a subscription order. Very happy!

Great product for my coop!
I have been using these for over 6 months now and have no issues at all. They last a very long time. I think I change them out around 4-5 months. My eggs aren’t cracked, my chickens seem to enjoy laying in their nesting boxes, and they last a reasonable amount of time. I plan to continue to use these!

Much easier to use than bedding!
When we first ordered these nest pads, our chickens turned their noses up and wouldn’t use them and my husband left a so so review. I’m the one who cleans the pens and coops most often now though and these nest pads are so much easier to keep clean than putting bedding in the nest boxes! Our chickens eventually came around too and they all use them now. I wish they were a bit cheaper because I have a LOT of chickens so I go through quite a few nest pads. The ease of use makes me keep buying them though.

A little large but okay
I got these ahead of schedule. My chicks are only about 12 weeks old and won’t be laying for another 10 to 12 weeks. However I have their nests boxes blocked off at the moment and only access is from the outside. I installed the nest in each box. My boxes are 12×12 and the nest pads are 13×13. They do fit but have to curve up the sides. We’ll see if the chickens fluff up the pad material when they start laying.

Good Nest Pads
I bought these nest pads to try out another type of bedding for the nest boxes in my coop. My chickens seem to really like the bedding. They are on the expensive side though, which is why I took a star off the review.

Good for what they are
This is the second box of these that I’ve purchased. One box typically lasts me a year and I have 15 chickens with three nesting boxes. These pads hold up decently to them scratching to create a nest and my girls definitely prefer to lay in these over straw. We live in Texas so our weather is mostly sunny and warm. Not sure how they’d hold up in colder/wetter climates.

These pads are awesome! I bought these to try with the hens and the difference in the cleanliness of the eggs compared to what I was using just amazing me. I won’t be using anything else from now on.

My wife just started using these for her hens…so far so good.
The hens seem to like these much more than usual straw and some pins shavings. Whereas the hens would kick the straw and pine shavings out of their nesting boxes, they don’t seem eager to try and remove these mats. It’s been less than a week since the switch, but 3 of the 4 hens are using the nesting box more, while the other 4th, more neurotic of the bunch still likes to lay her eggs out somewhere on the property. But so far, this seems to be a big improvement. Not sure of the value issue yet; but that the hens like these mats more is a plus. Will update the review after a few more months.

Not just for chickens
Received these took out and placed them on a spackle bucket while I did some other stuff around my coopsI heard my ducks making all kindsOf noises but thought to myself they are not bothering me soI was good to goWhen I returned to get liners the ducks took them and totally destroyed them they separated ALL OF THEM into a huge flat crap mat they pooped all over them made them unfit to use they where now sleeping off their nest box high under a treeIt did keep them from under my feet while I cleaned my coops out so give stars on that my personal opinion was when I removed from box thought they where very thin to use one mat for a laying box wouldn’t buy that brand again

Ease of use is the biggest benefit here.
It’s not the cheapest solution by far but easy to just clean your nest area and plop a new square in, the chickens will “fix it” how they want it anyway so just drop it in and forget it until it needs to be replaced.

So I saw these recommended and thought it was hype. After a few months, the girls laying in random places and not the nesting boxes, we switched stuff up. The day I put these in they laid in the boxes. I haven’t had any erant eggs since. So I will use these and continue to buy these. The girls love them and they are reasonably priced.
