The Benebone Wishbone

Dogs love to chew, especially on stuff that tastes like real bacon. The Wishbone is easy to handle, tastes awesome, and stands up to heavy chewing.

About Benebone

At Benebone, we started with the premise that dogs experience scent and flavor in a way we can’t even grasp. So we ditched the neon colors and loud squeaks. Inspired by a dog’s powerful sense of smell, we developed a long-lasting durable chew that’s jam-packed with real bacon. Once your dog takes a bite of our USA-made chews, he’ll be hooked.

We’re Obsessed with Safety Too

Wonder if Benebone is right for your dog? Here’s what you need to know. Since it’s hard, it’s important that your pup has strong teeth. If you’re unsure, check with your vet. Nobody likes an unexpected trip to the dentist. Keep an eye out for wear and tear. Within a month or so, we find that most dogs chew Benebone into submission. See the wear page on our website for helpful photos to determine when to replace yours. Keep away from households with peanut or other allergies.

The only thing my dog can’t destroy

My mini Australian Shepard will literally destroy any toy I give her – despite the chew rating. Found this last year and its the only thing she can’t destroy/break pieces off and eat. Highly recommend.

    Morkie…

My morkie didn’t want it at all but I’m pretty sure it’s not the companies fault lmao mortise are picky and I should have know better. So haven’t used it but I’m sure it’s great, just not for Morkies maybe.

    My dog is content

So I was weary to buy this but after looking at reviews I decided to try it. My pup is a very aggressive chewer and destroys all kinds of toys and long lasting chews. This so far is keeping her busy and content.

Lasts long and keeps the puppy busy

My dog is OBSESSED with this bone! This is the second one I ordered because my friend’s dog stole my dog’s other one haha! My puppy is only 7 months old and has been loving on the same bone for a few months now. It lasts a long time and keeps her busy. She will not rip up anything in the house as long as she has this bone to keep her attention on.

    Aggressive chewer approved

I have a bully that is a extremely aggressive chewer .This bone is worth its weight in gold..Finally have another brand other than nylabone that holds up wonderfully.

    Both dogs love them!

I got 2, one for each of my dogs. They really seem to enjoy them. It also seems to be cleaning their teeth a bit and I haven’t noticed either of them having really bad breath since purchasing.

    A perfect find

This bone is a life saver. We have a 4 mo puppy who was chewing on EVERYTHING, and I had already run through a whole stack of toys that would could not keep him interested. Now he runs and looks for his bone as soon as we get home, and just lays there happily chewing. Truly amazing for this stressed out puppy momma!

    Amazing, top quality

benebone are top quality and last forever. the only downside is the price. they are on the more expensive side of nylon chewing toys out there. theirs competitors that are just as large, have comparable quality and are half the price. would suggest to look elsewhere but still 5 stars because its still a great product.

    My dog loves this!

Her bone just arrived. She took the bag from the Amazon delivery guy and brought it up stairs for my grandson to open. She went NUTS! Medium sized and bacon flavored. She will be gnawing on this for the rest of the day.

    Durable/long lasting chew toy

I have a very large English Cream Golden Retriever mixed with lab. He chews and shreds everything. I always had such a difficult time finding both toys/bones that he likes but will also last more than 5 minutes! I have had this toy for months and it is still going strong and my dog absolutely loves it! If you have a dog who is a chewer, this is definitely the bone/toy for you!

    A Chewtoy Dogs Actually Love

My 18 month old puppy has been a terror, especially when separation anxiety kicks in. Dogs chew on things because it calms their anxiety. Dogs should NEVER be allowed to chew on “unauthorized” items, such as shoes, power cords, furniture, rugs, etc. This chew toy is great training aid for giving them an “authorized” item to chew. Gently (!) scold them for chewing on your table leg, and give them this toy to chew on instead. The chips from the Benebone they ingest will not harm them, unlike most other things they find to chew on to pass the time. The toys are very tough, and depending on how intensely they’re chewed should last from a couple of months to a year. When they get so chewed up that they hurt your fingers when picking them up, it’s time to get a new one; if they can hurt your fingers, imagine what it’ll do to your dog’s gums! And still cheaper than getting a new table leg, or new sneakers!

My Dogs Can Chew On It All Day!

I have 1 GSD and 2 Bischons and all 3 love their Benebones. I’ve tried other chew bones like Nylabone but this one is the best. They never get tired of them. I literally have to make sure they each have their own and another 3 on standby for when it’s time to switch. I still have to keep an eye on them for when the bones gets all chewed up but I have peace of mine that they are safe and my dogs love them. Been using these for years!

    Great for power chewer

Got this because my 16 pound Doxie mix puppy chews like a big dog, he broke a Kong. This was a good price and so far so good! He loves chewing on it and he’s worn it down a bit after a couple weeks but still has a ways to go! I got the small, bacon flavor and he can hold it and chew. Will definitely buy again.

    standard poodle loves this

My Standard poodle wants to swallow everything whole without chewing first, so this bone is perfect for her and she does chew on it a lot. she seems to enjoy it. It does last for a very long time, but I take it away when it gets so small that she might try to swallow it whole. I have bought this 2 times now and will buy again.

Durable toy my dog loves, But Heavy

One of my dog’s favorite toys. She loves gnawing on it when she’s lying down.Keep in mind that it is quite heavy. She has accidentally dropped it on my toes several times. It even broke one of my toes, so just a heads-up that your dog will probably drop this at random times, and it will hurt if it hits you.

I have a lab Great Dane mix that loves to chew on this bone and I don’t even remember when I bought it but it is still together. He has not went through it yet. The only thing about it is that if your dog is grinding their teeth on this it will leave little pieces on your furniture.

    Small is Too Big

My dog had a Benebone (puppy size) that I got for her when she was little. That was months ago and she’s pretty much chewed it down to a nub, so I wanted to get her a new one for Christmas. As I looked over the sizes, the smallest size they had was small, so I purchased it. From the moment I opened it, I knew it was too big.My pup is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. She’s around 8 lbs. This bone is bigger than her head! It’s half the size of her body! She can still get her mouth around it, so I hoped that she would find a way to enjoy it like her other bone. She’s barely touched it. The silver lining is my other dog had been stealing her bone for weeks, so she was very happy to take the new bone as her own. And I will say, the small size is best suited for her. She’s a Boxer/Beagle mix and weighs around 34 lbs. It’s perfect for her.Other than the size mishap, my dogs love these bones. I did notice there may have been a bit of blood on the bone. I’m assuming it’s likely from the bits scraping her gums. You’ll definitely want to keep an eye on your dog while chewing this. And if you have multiple dogs, be sure to watch out for resource guarding. Lucky for me, my dogs don’t mind sharing the bone with each other. They haven’t been protective of it at all.I also want to add, I bought the two big dogs Nylabones for Christmas. They’ve barely touched them. But both of them have chewed on the Benebone. Compared to the Nylabone, it feels softer and more real. The Nylabone is very much like hard plastic. Maybe that’s why they don’t care for it.Either way, I guess I’ll have to go back to buying the puppy sized bone for my girl. I did see in the product description, there is one size smaller than small, called a tiny. But there’s no option to buy that size, unfortunately. At least not during the time of me writing this review.

    My dog’s favorite bone

I’ve tried a few different kinds of bones for my 17 lb terrier and this is by far her favorite! When her second one arrived, she couldn’t wait to pull it out of the bag and tear into it. These don’t last too long with her, (maybe 2 weeks until they’re looking like they should be replaced) but she’s quite the chewer, so I imagine others would get more time out of them. Regardless, this bone is totally worth it. Plus, I just learned Benebone has a recycling program, so that’s a bonus!

Love Benebone, but aggressive chewer can shred ends in one sitting

My title says it all. Our dog loves Benebone and I’ve found that his teeth are cleaner when used correctly (if your dog chews mostly on one side of his/her mouth you’ll likely not see the dental cleaning effect on both sides). I wish they were not so expensive and easier to find in stores.

    My dog’s absolute favorite!

This is my dog’s favorite toy of all time. He will choose this over the rest (and he has MANY toys, we get both pup and bark box). The only issue is that as he chews it the ends get poky and if I let him continue to chew his gums will bleed. I have read that you can buy a wood file to sand it down but I haven’t found one that works well yet. My husband used his Dremel to sand it and that did work.

So far so good!! Try as they may, my girls are giving it the old college try with these bones to no avail. I will always have at least 2 of these in my home for sure. Very durable and can withstand my pups, so I love it…have bought a Bacon and a Peanut Butter.

    Bullies Love them!

Our English Bullies love these. Will admit, they are aggressive chewers and they do need replaced every few months. Funny thing is the dogs only tend to chew on single end of bone so other two ends pretty much go untouched.

    My GSD Favorite Toy

At 8 years old our German Shepherd has no build up on his teeth. We attribute it to the wishbone. It is the first thing he grabs after eating. We joke about him flossing after eating. He loves this chew toy.

    Best bone ever!

I bought this bone for a new 2 year old pup I just adopted. She was used for breeding and I was able to rescue her at a young age. Knowing she didn’t have a childhood I wanted to get her things she could chew in. This is the best bone I’ve ever gotten. She loves it and chews on it all the time. My older dog also started chewing on it and she was never a fan of bones to begin with. It’s solid and sturdy and is not coming apart like other bones. It’s seems like it will last a long time. I highly recommend!

    Indestructible

These are the only chewing toys I can leave around my dogs because they are actually indestructible as advertised. They also love the flavors, especially peanut butter flavor, and they last for so long. They cost more upfront, but when all other toys/bones last a day and these last 6-8 months, it is totally worth it. These keep my pups entertained and away from my shoes so I’m a lifelong customer.

Great Design, But One End Broke Off Almost Immediately

***EDIT 3: I have upgraded this to four stars. I received two replacement JUMBO bones after the one I purchased broke off almost instantly. I think that product had a defect in it, which is a little dangerous because it broke into a piece that could be swallowed. HOWEVER, the two replacement bones have been excellent. One got chewed up first, and it did slowly whittle away, but it did not break into any dangerous pieces and it did not get sharp. My puppy loved it! The second bone she has had a little more trouble chewing away, and it still gets her attention after months of hard chewing. Which makes me think that the bones have different hardness levels in the batches they are made, but that is just speculation. Regardless, the bone is great and does does not break into little pieces which could be choking hazards, and it does not get sharp.Great product, a little inconsistent in batches maybe, but it will get your dog’s attention, provide hours of chewing, and the scent does not get on the carpet like other chew toys or bones. Good purchase!***Edit 1: Benebone contacted me almost immediately and offered a replacement of the larger size. Their customer service representative has been friendly and I forwarded my contact information through their website for the replacement. I will update when I receive the new product and my experience.******Edit 2: When I contacted Benebone’s customer service to provide my address, they immediately responded in approximately an hour. In fact, they already sent and I received not one replacement, but TWO replacement bones and a nice handwritten note. I have attached a photo below proving it. The replacements were the LARGER, upgraded sizes too! I have upgraded this review to 3 Stars premised on the sincere and strong customer service they have shown me. THIS COMPANY STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. For that, I think it is just to upgrade my 2 star review to 3 stars. I still stand by what I had said below regarding the smaller size, but so far my puppy LOVES the JUMBO Benebone and I will surely review the JUMBO in two weeks to see how it holds up. So far, the JUMBO is 5 STARS for sure; it has held up much better than the other chew toy, despite my puppy’s intense chewing on this bone (it smells much stronger than the little bone and the flavor must be super intense for her). Despite this intense chewing, the bone has taken very little damage from her–it is holding up much better.ADVICE: Do not go by the weight recommendations and size. If your puppy/dog prefers to chew on hard bones, just get the largest size for 100 lb dogs. If your puppy chews on hard bones once in awhile but not really, then you can go for the size for 70 lb dogs. I still think the 70 lb Benebone I got had a defect which resulted in one branch completely falling off immediately–the other two branches are solid despite heavy chewing–but this new JUMBO bone is amazing!***Original Review*** – 2 StarsI purchased this for my 45 lb, 8 month old pit bull/shepherd mix. It is a good idea and design, but one whole end was destroyed in no time. Perhaps I got a defective one with an air bubble or crack, as you can see from the photo below that one end completely broke off/wore down but the other two ends are barely damaged despite my puppy’s chewing.Regardless, I feel a little mislead that it was rated for dogs up to 70 lbs and, while the packaging warns you that this is just an estimate, one who anticipate that it would last longer than a week for a puppy 25 lbs lighter than the estimate. Nylabones and elk antlers lasted much longer than this did and my puppy seriously chews on the elk antlers quite intensely. As way of some background, my puppy has a lot of chew toys ranging from bones, rawhide, ropes, stuffed animals, nylabones, and rubber balls. She certainly spent a lot of attention on this toy the last week, but it wasn’t exclusive and her chewing was shared with some of her other staples.I like that this toy has bacon mixed in with it. If you smell the toy, particularly where your dog has been chewing, you can kind of smell a meaty aroma. It does not get on the rug or rub off, and it is a faint smell, but on the chewed parts you can smell something. It is not noticeable when you are sitting next to your dog/puppy and the toy, or near the toy; it is only when you pick up the toy and put it right to your nose. I can only imagine what this smells like to dogs with their super sense of smell!I also can’t argue with the design/shape of the toy–it’s perfect! The curve of the toy is great, as she can scoop it up or put pressure on one end to elevate the opposite end to chew on it.But I just can’t get over how quickly that one end came off. I got it about two weeks ago and I gave it to her last week (I slowly introduce new toys to keep her occupied and her mind stimulated). Compared to other chew toys–including nylabone and elk antlers–this toy wore down much quicker. In fact, the nylabone she has had for much longer, the puppy nylabones nonetheless, have outlasted this toy and the nylabone has been around since we first took her home at 2 months. She has also had an elk antler which has also lasted much longer and she REALLY goes after that one.I have attached a photo below of my puppy and the damage to the bone. For the cost, which is about the same as a nylabone, I would have wished it lasted much longer than it did–which is why I got it in the first place as opposed to another nylabone. I would be happy if it lasted a few months, which is what I would guess to be its normal lifespan.I would not classify my puppy as a big chewer either. She certainly chews and can do damage to hard bones or chew toys, but she is by no means a destroyer–she does not even shred her stuffed animals and has executed only a few (some were not even dog chew toys but children’s toys she was given to play with). This is the first hard toy she has destroyed where I had to take it away.CONCLUSION: Perhaps I got a Benebone that had a defect, or my puppy really just destroyed this one in a mere week, but I simply cannot recommend this version of the Benebone I got. I might try to get the jumbo Benebone or one rated higher for bigger dogs up to 100 lbs if they go on sale, but I don’t think that my 8 month old puppy should warrant a toy for dogs up to 100 lbs when she has not destroyed any of her other toys like this one. It even takes her longer to go through some of the large rawhide toys she has!

    Helps keep teeth clean

These are my dogs absolute favorites. They help keep their teeth clean and occupy them for long periods of time. They last forever. The only downside is that my dogs only chew on side as they use the other sides to hold it down so I will end up throwing them away when they’re only 1/3-1/2 of the way chewed. But I continue to order more and they love all flavors.

This product is for very aggressive chewers.

Jazz has a long muzzle and small very sharp teeth. She can turn one of these bones into a cactus within a month. We have found that the wishbone lasts longer than the bone shape. We were very glad to see the sale because this is not a low cost product. Our dog is part aussie/bird dog and who knows what else. She weighs around 30 pounds.

    Great for dog chewers

I got one , we’ll 3 of these the 1st time when my GS was a pup & teething…. well she finally got it down to dangerous side at age 8 moths old..pretty good considering it was a med size one.. So I went over to Chewys & found a Gigantic one for her & yep bought 3 more. She’s still chews but ya know she never chewed up anything but these in the whole house & I was so suprized.. when I 1st got it to get her interested in it put a smear of creamy put butter on the wide side of the wish bone”Y” but only had to do it once.. she loves these.. it keeps her busy & she is now 1 yrs old.. I won’t let her take it out side cause she carried one somewhere & it was never seen again.. This dog literally eats trees.. pulls te bark off or grabs logs from our wood pile.. we’re talking 6 inch wide logs.. & she chewed our papaya tree in half , but caught it before she got all the way thru.. so yes these things are the best ever. Just watch when it get small enough to get fully in her mouth & replace it.. the Gigantic ones are a life savor if you have 60 LB & over dog or a big chewer..

    Amazing Bundle Deal!

I like to make sure that my dog gets chewing time for enrichment at least once a day and these are by far his favorite “sticks”. Chewing is so important for not only mental stimulation but for a dogs mental health as well. It can help to relieve stress and anxiety, not to mention boredom. And can keep them from destroying things that you don’t want them to destroy. We have tried a ton of different kinds, always being mindful of ingredients, where, and how they are made. Benebone are all made in the US with non-toxic ingredients. Each “stick” is designed to last up to one month, depending on the dog before they should be recycled. With my dog however, they last anywhere from one to two weeks before there are small pieces coming off and the edges are very frayed. He is a moderate to heavy chewer and these are the ones that last the longest, as well as keep his attention too.You get four different variations in each box, the zaggler has definitely been his favorite and one we hadn’t tried before purchasing this bundle. The bundle is a fantastic deal since you get four, which each one can normally cost anywhere from $10-$15 depending on size and where you purchased them from. For us this is ideal considering he goes through them so quickly!Overall, I think these “sticks” are great for chewing enrichment time. My only complaint is my dog goes through them way too quickly! 🐶

The most appetizing shape – heavy chewers

For whatever reason, this specific shape in the chicken flavor is our dogs’ go-to flavor combo. We typically buy a four pack of Benebones and this is always the first to go. The second option for them is the “Zaggler” then the fishbone. My dogs could go without the Maplestick and those are always in the donate box to go to other family members or friends. The stick for whatever reason is incredibly crumbly and leaves little crumbles all over the carpet. NOTE: these things are Lego for dog owners. Leave them in the middle of the room and you will step on them and you will be saying choice words. I couldn’t have made it through teething phase without these Benebones and I love that they introduced a recycling program for older chews that need to be retired. I have very heavy chewers (Corso/German Shepherd mix and a Lab/Hound mix) and these last for easily 3-4 months per chew. They don’t typically lose interest of the Wishbone or Zaggler after chewing for a day or two and we always keep 3+ extras around the house for them to rotate between each other.

    My Dogs Love It

We have 6 dogs and 4 of them love this chew toy, the two others being of the “non-chew toy type”. The only thing that I don’t like this product is that when dropped on a tile floor at 6:00 am it is quite noticeable (if you are a Veteran, all the more so)! We have only tile in our home and this is a frequent occurrence no matter what room the dogs are playing in. But, they love it and I should probably be up by then anyway!

    My dog loves it

The media could not be loaded.

My dog absolutely loves this thing… and I love how well it occupies his time. It says bacon flavor, and—while it doesn’t smell like anything to me—the way my pup chews and licks it, it must be.It’s made of a hard nylon material, so I would recommend limiting the amount of time your dog uses it. I allowed my pup to chew on it for something like a 25 minute period, then I noticed a bit of blood on the chew toy. Had I taken it away from him after 15 minutes or so, this could’ve been prevented.Anywho, would certainly recommend this thing to a friend and plan to buy it again once he wears it down.

    Favorite toy

I have three dogs and all love this bone. It is the first toy pulled from the toy box every morning and is carried around all day long. They love gnawing away on this. Well worth the money.

    Good for a bitey puppy

Our cav puppy really likes this. I got the small chicken one. I thought it may be too big for him but he tried to tackle it immediately. Definitely keeps him occupied too.
