Dog food
This is the only food that I feed to my dogs with allergies. They’ve both eaten it for years and I don’t feed them anything else. It does smell a little fishy, but I guess that’s expected with salmon. As long as they are healthy!

Love this food
Like most people I had tried many dog foods, we have 6 dogs. 2 Australian Shepards, a Jack Russell, Jack/chi, and 2 Chiwees. Could never find something they could agree on so I was buying 2 different foods, then I found Taste of the Wild, did my research and found it’s one of the best brands. And boy oh boy do they love it, they only like Ancient Stream and Ancient Wetlands. No issues with allergies, they all are pretty healthy, maybe a bit pricey but not as pricey as buying different foods for each fur baby

Typically a dependable product but dogs with grain allergies easily expose false product content
Dogs that can’t eat grain have immediate skin reactions when they eat food containing grain. In the past this product seemed to be a reliable grain free product as described on the label. However, the recent shipment contained or was mixed with grain at some point and it was easy to tell 3-4 days in when the dogs could not stop scratching themselves and they refused to eat more than one bowl a day when they normally eat three. When we went to the store to replace the food with a different grain free product, the reaction from the dogs was immediate and noticeable. Within a day they had stopped scratching incessantly and they were back to reminding us that they wouldn’t mind a fourth bowl of food if we would so oblige them. Keeping products composed of their labeled ingredients is paramount for a variety of reasons.

Cycle through the flavors to give your dogs variety!
I’ve had trouble with other brands sending moldy food when shipped direct to my house. I’ve been with this line of food for a few years and it’s always perfect. I rotate through the flavors with each purchase to give the dogs a little more variety.

Fixed the Butt Stink
DISCLAIMER: Amazon asked me to rate the flavor. I gave it five stars but I assure you that I have not personally tried the kibble. This stuff fixed the dreaded “Butt Stink” which can only lead me to assume the cheaper stuff had ingredients that caused her allergies.

Great ingredients, better price
It’s insane how expensive quality dog food has gotten. Most are in excess of $5 a lb. This food is one of the only that is around $2.The Buffalo flavor has the best ingredients, with the most proteins in the 1st 3 ingredients. (3 vs 1 or 2)

Decreased Quality Recently
I am not sure if it is due to ordering instead of purchasing at the store, or if the ingredients are being adjusted to cut costs, despite the cost not being decreased whatsoever for the consumer, but the last two bags we purchased via Amazon have smelled so putrid and my dog leaves it untouched until he just cannot anymore. I have to practically build a fortress around my other dog’s food lately because he would rather her food, which is not specifically made for his needs as a large breed (newfoundland). He loved this brand when we first tried it a year ago and sadly, we had to switch again to another brand, which at 11 years old I didn’t want for him. It is so upsetting for their stomachs to have to do this.Anyway I figured if I do not leave feedback, then others will get stuck with a stinky pantry as well and a frustrated pupper. Plus, perhaps something is wrong at the factory or distributing center causing this. Hopefully, y’all can check it out and make changes as needed.

Keep your dogs food consistent
If you go with a cheaper brand, stay with a cheaper brand. Suddenly switching dog food can make your dog sick. (Throwing up, runny poop, etc) Much like humans switching between diets. Always consult with your vet the best meal option for your canine. My dog has been on this brand since he was a puppy and I’ve experienced no issues with him in his brand. I was informed he needed to be on a grain free diet. This brand works great for him.

BEST DOG FOOD!
I began feeding this food to my dog when she was 6 months old. She remained healthy and vet free her entire life she passed on at 15 yrs old. I believe her good health had a lot to do with this food. I will continue to tell everyone I know about how wonderful this product is!

Good food for our dogs
This food seems to be pretty good. There is one downside that is worth noting, doesn’t bother me so much but it does my wife. This stuff seems to give our dogs some serious gas. Maybe because I’m a dude and it is what it is, it doesn’t bother me so much unless it is right in my face. She on the other hand hates it. Dogs seem to like the food though, which is what I think matters.Maybe buy some fabreez along with this?

Product met expectations
I liked that the order was accurate and shipped on time.Very dissatisfied with FedEx. They texted me that they left my product on my porch. The picture was not of my porch. They did not even deliver it to my address, which my address is clearly marked. FedEx never called me back.My neighbor finally called me later that night and said FedEx delivered my product to her address.

One of the few dry dog foods, my dog actually seems to like
It doesn’t have that really disgusting horrible smell that some dry dog foods have. Which makes me believe that they are actually using some decent products. Most dry dog foods. My boxer won’t even look at and we’ll go days before touching it unless we add something to it. She seems to enjoy this brand and flavor more than any other dry dog food she’s eaten so far.

Packaging was HORRIBLE
The product itself is perfect. Would definitely buy this from the store again (not shipped!). The shipping was horrendous. The ingredients listed on this dog food seem very promising. I did a lot of research on foods for my pup, and I felt extremely comfortable with feeding my baby this. I saw no flags in the ingredients and seen that it’s rated pretty high for a healthy choice of kibble. I switched over to taste of the wild from blue buffalo to give her some variety. Taste wise she seems to like it just as much as the old kibble so I know it doesn’t taste bad for her. Overall, if I was to buy this at a store I’d give it a 5/5. BUT. I ordered it through amazon where it had to be shipped. I wish I wasn’t angry enough to take a picture of the disaster of the shipment. the food came in the flimsiest box I have ever seen. Mind you, I ordered the largest bag (I think it was either 28 or 38lbs I forgot the exact weight but it was heavy). this box was humongous compared to the bag and had no other stuffing in the bag to prevent the weight from moving around and breaking the box. On top of the lack of quality of the cardboard, it literally looked liked it was wrapped up by a 2 year old with dollar store tape. there was like 4 layers of crumpled up tape (looked like someone continuously kept trying to cover up their taping mistakes) just for it to NOT EVEN STICK! the box arrived at my door step COMPLETELY opened. scratches all over the bag, thankfully (and extremely surprised) it didn’t bust a hole in it! both sides of the box were busted open from the weak box and tape. not sure if it was the person who delivered it or the person who packaged it at fault for this but I mean at least the food arrived unopened. Would definitely buy this high quality food again but definitely not shipped from amazon or at all.

Dogs can’t get enough of it. 28# bag so probably less than what you’ll be expecting
Decided it was time for a change for the 5 dogs. They definitely love this food as well as the seafood version.Company needs to spread the word more on their advertising budget.I didn’t know this existed and decided to try a bag.Dogs are circling around at feeding time.Quality food but it is a 28# bag. I mention that so someone won’t be surprised. Most bulk food is 40-50#

Actually read the FDA report vs drawing conclusions from a headline
I avoid writing & reading reviews bc so many are misleading or useless. Much better ways to spend your time but really couldnt help myself here.0ne review says: The full study is easy to read and gives a clear conclusion: Taste of the Wild and any food with a similar formula is a danger to dogs. The irony is the report makes no such conclusion. It’s a warning “ The FDA has not yet determined the nature of the possible connection between these foods and canine DCM”The report says “Potential” and “possible” links throughout.“ the disease may have a nutritional component without suggesting a nutritional solution”Between 2014 thru 2019 560 dogs were diagnosed with canine dilated cardiomyopathy, 119 died. It was reported that they ate one ofAcana (67), Zignature (64), Taste of the Wild (53), 4Health (32), Earthborn Holistic (32), Blue Buffalo (31), Nature’s Domain (29), Fromm (24), Merrick (16), California Natural (15), Natural Balance (15), Orijen (12), Nature’s Variety (11), NutriSource (10), Nutro (10), and Rachael Ray Nutrish (10) Of various types… kibble, canned, raw, etcThere are 77 million pet dogs in the United States according to the American Vetinary Medical AssociationThe FDA policy requires them to issue a warning in this situation on any possible connection. This also pushed by the vetinary association groups calling in their own conclusions. Unrelated, my vet has “recommended” a prescription dog food at 3x the cost of taste of the wild available on their website . Really hard not to wonder about conflict of interest.Anyway, those are the facts. No conclusions have been made or else it would result in a recall. And the actual numbers I’m comfortable with purchasing this brand.

Trying for digestive issues
My Samoyed has had digestive issues for awhile now. He use to self feed until something went wrong. My vet agreed that he wouldn’t want to put his dog through the tests to see if the problem was from his upper or lower digestive systems. I asked him how would it be handled anyway and he said diet. So, the search continues. First no chicken and it’s hard to find anything with no chicken meal. He still needs to eat every 8 hours or he dry heaves and can fall from it. He hasn’t free fed in years, so now I’m trying this food with no chicken at all or grains and see how it goes. He likes the taste, but as always, I have to add a little brown rice and sugar free apple sauce to get him to eat.

High quality but Gassy pet?
This is such a high quality and great brand. You can tell when my furbabes are eating taste of the wild versus other brands, all their coats get a gorgeous shine, soft, none of that nasty greasiness that furbabes get when eating the “cheaper” brands. Also, for the high quality food your furbabe is getting you will notice they are actually full, normal healthy poos, good energy, overall healthy pet and the price is very affordable. NOTE TO THOSE WHO SWITCH OVER TO TASTE OF THE WILD: you might notice your furbabe get gassy after the switch, it’s completely normal as most pets get gassy during switches especially from low quality food to higher, it will go down and away once their bodies are adjusted. So no worries! I hope this review helps anyone interested in switching or trying out 🙂

My dogs eat Taste of the Wild High Prairie so I thought I’d cha ge it up for them and get a new flavor. They do not like this flavor though. It arrived fine and in good condition, they just don’t like the Southwest Canyon flavor. I guess I’ll go back to the High Prairie flavor (when this bag is gone).

So happy to find this dog food.
When our dog was diagnosed with lots of food allergies we worried all the specialty dogfoods were going to be financially draining. Then we found this very affordable salmon dry kibble. Our picky dog loves it and we can relax knowing she will not be scratching her skin raw. The fish in her diet now is also resulting in her coat looking so much healthier and shiny.

PET LOVERS: PLEASE READ THE SAFETY TIP IN MY REVIEW!
The media could not be loaded.
VIDEO INCLUDED WITH THIS REVIEW ♥️I’ll buy this again because:1. BIGGER BAG: 28 lb bag instead of 22 lb bag (most dog foods offer 22 lbs as their largest size bag). Same price as other comparable 22 lb premium dog foods. The bigger size makes it great for multi-dog homes.2. LONGEVITY: A 28 lb bag lasts about a month for 2 adult 55-60 lbs doggies.3. QUALITY: First 3 ingredients are meat. All ingredients are nutrient-dense, no fillers, contains active probiotics. The list of ingredients is pretty impressive for the price.4. DOGS APPROVE: All my pups love the taste, they scarf it down and look at me like “Ma, where’s the rest?” Check out the cute video attached to this review!5. $$$ BUDGET FRIENDLY: I am a long-time owner of “special needs” dogs with sensitivities and an RN with a passion for nutrition. Anyone who has special needs pups knows the increased expenses! Yes, there are higher quality foods, the freeze-dried foods have higher nutritional bioavailability. However, most of us can’t afford dog food that cost more $$ per pound than ribeye steak!Friendly tip: this is not grain-free, it’s “grain-friendly”.****PLEASE READ THIS:Latest research is showing that grain-free diets are possibly linked to DCM (HEART FAILURE) due to the high amount of peas, lentils, and/or potatoes. The FDA ISSUED A WARNING regarding grain-free dog food, advising they should be avoided unless your pup has been tested for/diagnosed with a specific grain allergy. I have a medical background and after much research, I found enough compelling data to support this FDA recommendation. I have stopped feeding my babies grain-free food. I am sharing this information so that other pet parents won’t have to do the footwork (and won’t have to loose their best friend).I love sharing a great find with other puppy obsessed pet parents. And if you’re reading pet food reviews on Amazon, then you’re obviously just as obsessed as I am!I hope this review was helpful in answering some of your questions! ♥️

My dog has been on taste of the wild his entire life, at first you see the price and get a little intimidated by it but compared to other healthier dog foods out there this one is actually cheaper! It has a variety of flavors cause we don’t eat the same thing why should they and it does wonders for there coat seriously his coat is soo shiny we think sometimes he has water on him but he doesn’t

we are very very happy with this new dog food Call of the Wild
This is Antoinette Jackson. I am writing to let you know of the new change in our dogs FOOD. WE had been on Canada Day through ALL our Goldens, and I was a breeder at one time and always swore by Canidae our dogs got nothing else no other dog food and all that time. It has been well over 15 years Well there’s been a change and it’s a distinct change. We noticed that our seven year old Golden male had begun eating bowls of Canidae dog food more than triple the AMOUNT. We carefully watched this for four solid months. It seemed like he was eating cardboard or sawdust, there seemed to be nothing in the food nutritionally because he never seemed to get full and the more we put in the more he ate. THIS has never been true for our dog and we began thinking something is very strange with the Canada. They’ve been changing the size, the bags, they’ve been changing a lot of things and whatever they have done is not beneficial – not at all. Meanwhile, a beautiful, black and white cat has since made our home his and we wondered what kind of food we should start giving him, After much discussion and talking with reputable feed and animal stores, WE went with CALL OF THE WILD SALMON for the CAT. The cat seemed to thrive on it. His coat became beautiful and shiny and he was gaining weight. Plus he likes the food. Now back to our Golden, we decided that we would put Mauna Kea also on CALL OF THE WILD the Buffalo and VENISON. WE were able to get a 38 pound bag and for as much as Mauna Kea was eating with Canidae and going through food like it was a water. WE found that we aren’t doing any worse for the cost with call of the wild even though it is more expensive. This is the first week so we’re weaning him over seven days and we have noticed a big difference in how much food he is eating because now he’s getting real nutritional value. I put in 1 cup of the Call of The Wild 1 cup of the Canadae. He no longer eats like he’s starving to death, and there’s still food left in his bowl, which was never the case with Canadae the past 4 months.During this time we also took MaunaKea to his vet for a thorough check up. Which was several hundred dollars. He of course, came out with a clean bill of health, no worms, no anything just a HEALTHY golden retriever.I don’t know how to get through to Canada on an email, but I certainly do hope that you will take note of this and pass it on to the people who should be aware of it.Canidae has left us with a great big disappointment in our lives because we really relied on it. AS a matter of fact when we moved back to Hawaii on the BIG ISLAND where we owned a home they had never heard of it. WE HAD TO ALWAYS SPECIAL ORDER it. BY the time we left years later everybody was coming in and buying it, and they always had it on stock they said it was one of their biggest sellers.Mahalo Antoinette Jackson

Little Brown and Banjo gobble this right up, I had to actually buy eat-slower bowls for both of them. Both of the boys sit by their bowls waiting for me to feed them. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of …
The first ingredient in this dog food is buffalo. Although it is a quality item, raw buffalo contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight. After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product. The second ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh lamb. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene. The fourth ingredient is egg product, an unspecified (wet or dry?) form of shell-free eggs. Quality can vary significantly. Lower grade egg product can even come from commercial hatcheries — from eggs that have failed to hatch. In any case, eggs are easy to digest and have an exceptionally high biological value. The fifth ingredient is pea protein, what remains of a pea after removing the starchy part of the vegetable.Even though it contains over 80% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The sixth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber. However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The seventh ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog.The eighth ingredient is canola oil. Unfortunately, canola can be a controversial item. That’s because it can sometimes (but not always) be derived from genetically modified rapeseed.Yet others cite the fact canola oil can be a significant source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. In any case, plant-based oils like canola are less biologically available to a dog than fish oil as a source of quality omega-3 fats. The ninth ingredient is tomato pomace. Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient, a by-product remaining after processing tomatoes into juice, soup and ketchup. Many praise tomato pomace for its high fiber and nutrient content, while others scorn it as an inexpensive pet food filler.Just the same, there’s probably not enough tomato pomace here to make much of a difference. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product. With four notable exceptions…First, flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber. However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food.Next, salmon oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans.Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition. In addition, chicory root is rich in inulin, a starch-like compound made up of repeating units of carbohydrates and found in certain roots and tubers. Not only is inulin a natural source of soluble dietary fiber, it’s also a prebiotic used to promote the growth of healthy bacteria in a dog’s digestive tract. And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods.

I highly recommend this
We rescued our dog in 2012. Vet thought he must be about 4 years old. That makes him nearly 16 but he looks and acts like a young dog. No one including groomers or vets can believe his age and his coat is shiny and beautiful. This lamb dog food is the only food he’s ever had and I firmly believe that it’s the reason that he’s so healthy and energetic. I joke that I should have been eating it too and I might be healthier than I am. It’s a little more expensive but I’ve saved a lot with him being so healthy. Besides I’d pay anything for him. He’s my best friend.

Update to previous review
I had originally rated the seller as 1 star because my order did not arrive on time and there was no tracking information. The seller got in touch with me, apologized, and rerouted the order overnite via FedEx!EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! By the way, my dog loves this dog food!

In the Mail?
My dogs love this food. There is nothing wrong with it. My problem is, why would Amazon send a 28 lb. bag of dog food in the U S mail? This has never happened before. It is always delivered by UPS. And it comes in a timely manner.
